Italy; a country in many ways characterized by its history, local traditions and folklore, has one of the highest elderly populations in the world. Having moved back to Milan in 2019 and being able to spend more time with my maternal grandparents, I wanted to capture this phenomenon in all its significance and diversity.

This was simply the starting point; the project soon transformed into a profound journey through Italy's archaic dimensions, with the passing of time as the central theme.

The words that accompany each image are taken from William Shakespeare's King Lear, which contains a profound reflection on old age, the generational conflict and the end of man's power over himself and the world.
